SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, has been shelved and is on it’s way to sleep with the fishes. Way to go Internet. However, it’s ugly sister in the Senate, PIPA is alive and well, and is actually worse than SOPA. PIPA threatens free speech and the Internet itself. Over the past few weeks, websites like Reddit have pledged to go dark to show their opposition to SOPA and PIPA. As people who make our living from the Web, it’s important we remain vigilant and put PIPA down too. But we also know, that not everyone can afford, or know how to, take their website down to stand with those that can. That’s why we’ve created a special Hello Bar that sites that stay up can add to voice their opposition to PIPA and generate awareness and action about the legislation.
Adding the Stop PIPA Hello Bar to your site is free and easy. The message will never change and you can remove the code at any time. You don’t need an account or have to provide an email address to participate. Simply copy the code and place it inside thetags of your website. That’s it. We’ve created three you can choose from.
Installing the Stop PIPA Hello Bar is easy:
- Choose the Hello Bar you wish to display.
- Copy the code.
- Add the code to your site inside the body tags.
PIPA is a dangerous piece of legislation that threatens free speech and the Internet itself. Learn more about the legislation here, and contact your representative to stop PIPA now. Our collective voices can create change. The recent pressure has shelved SOPA and we can do the same with PIPA. Let’s stand together and protect the Internet and our right to free speech.
