Amazingly, in a world that is almost always visually arresting, sometimes all it takes to get us moving is a few carefully chosen words. Quotations serve as incredibly succinct motivators.

The list below is by no means exhaustive; it is a small cache of some of our favorite quotations related to design. Breathe these in…

1

Simplicity is not the goal. It is the by-product of a good idea and
modest expectations.

Paul Rand

2

There is no design without discipline. There is no discipline without intelligence.

Massimo Vignelli

7

Great set of quotations to get my day started! “Don’t worry about people stealing your design work. Worry about the day they stop…” is my favorite quote out of the bunch.

Here’s another great quote “creativity is intelligence having fun.” – Einstein. I’m a sucker for all of his quotes.

I love point 6. I remember I was furious the first time I saw someone who I was fairly certain copied my work… and then I realized people taking elements of my work is really a form of compliment, and it’s not like I have never used other people’s designs for inspiration as well.

    Nice post!

Agreed – In the short term, it can be frustrating to see other people doing the things you thought came straight out of your mind and experience. But when you realize we’re all sharing ideas already, it’s oddly validating to know that you contributed to a trend.
