The discussions about blogs improving an individual or company’s reputation or exposure are numerous. What is not discussed is how maintaining a blog improves the internet for everyone else. This is not meant to convince you to go out and start your own blog, but blogs have helped create a more positive experience for users of the internet. You can jump on the internet and more likely than not, there is a blog post with a review of some product, a solution to your problem, or a theory about some out of this world idea. Even better, these writings are usually executed in a manner that is easier to read and comprehend because they are posted by everyday people with a more personal connection to their viewers.
Recently, here at dt we have set a goal to post to our blog on a consistent basis. We wanted to share concepts and things we have discovered or learned with our readers. For the past couple of months, we have been persistent. A post or two appears almost every day. We, as a company, have seen results showing we are increasing our exposure. There’s an increase in page views by about 50% and an increase in the amount of pages viewed per visit. In short, our blog has been paying off. But what has been even more enjoyable is the responses we have been receiving from our readers. The blog has been returning its investment of time and effort with exposure, but also with communication with others involved in the field or wanting to become involved. Even though completing an article is fulfilling, knowing someone received some type of enjoyment or knowledge out of what you wrote trumps all else.
Some Benefits of Blogs for Readers & Writers.
- Collective Knowledge – As humans, we have a great advantage of collective knowledge. We have the ability to build upon what other people have discovered or invented. The time it takes to find something and read up about it has been dramatically reduced. With blogs, readers can find an article on just about anything. This has created, for the most part, a fantastic experience for the internet user. They have the confidence to go online and find anything.
- Fresh Content – The best blogs are kept up to date. Constantly informing or intriguing the readers. Consistently creating an enjoyable experience. For the blogger, keeping your website updated regularly ensures Google will crawl your site more often. This gets your information and content into the search giant quicker. You will start to show up as a search result soon and assist users in finding what they are searching for much faster.
- Loyal Viewers – Unless it is a great resource, readers have no reason to return if the content remains the same, but if a user is impressed, they now have a new source of information. So, give them something new to read and further improve everyone’s experience. Make your readers happy, in return they will make you happy.
- Becomes Another Entry Point – We have seen positive results from our efforts with the blog. We are now seeing people use our blog as an entry way into our site, not just the homepage. Having another entry point for your website, helps provide the curious browser a path to explore. Giving them more information to digest.
- Expands Your Knowledge – Blogging brings contradictory, supporting, or alternative points of view to the argument or topic through the comments. Reading comments is part of the experience of any article and usually a positive one. Reading these can present to the writer and readers a different angle on the topic and help expand their understanding of the complete picture. It creates a small social connection between all the contributors as well.
With all of these positives, why not blog and improve the billions of internet users experiences worldwide? Well, it isn’t easy. Trying to find something to write about is tough, but when you find your topic and it gets exposure, it is a great feeling. Make sure what you write about is of quality – and quality takes time. Lastly, remain consistent; remain consistent with the topics and the frequency of posts. Users return to your blog for what they had read there initially. Keep on target and keep it coming while positively contributing to the experience of the web.
