There’s a new team in Mountain View: The Google Health Advertising Team. And just as the name states these guys have the 411 on things related to the health advertising market. This happened a week or so ago but really should be touched on a bit more because of Google’s foresight into this mega-capital industry.
The team of professionals goal is to “help our health industry advertisers better understand how people are searching for health information, and how you as advertisers can better leverage the power of search and the Internet†as stated on their first blog post.
Google being an advertising company first and foremost means they need to be able to advise different clients across a wide range of markets. The bigger the market the bigger the need for an advertising team like the one Google just launched. Healthcare is one of the biggest and most lucrative markets we have here in the U.S. and Google knows that their voice can have the ability to sway more advertising dollars their way (via search, mobile video etc).
Health is probably one of the most widely researched topics on the Internet. People often use search to research conditions, treatments, or find the lowest cost on medications. The new blog has a habit of drawing attention to the statistics relating to these kinds of segments. If you are a health advertiser or in a marketing role at a healthcare company this blog is not a bad place to start gathering initial data to help you plan your next digital marketing plan.
On another note, it was interesting to see the authors of the blog dive into a topic like Michael Moore’s new movie Sicko and take a pro-change view on the industry. Doing something like that was sure to incite some backlash. I applaud them for their view of the current situation thought and hope they say more in the future.
