San Diego Art Institute Graduate Portfolio Show

Telepathy

The Art Institute of San Diego just had their winter graduate portfolio show. Matt, Bill and I attended the event to meet with some local students and do some not-so-undercover talent scouting. The event was in downtown San Diego at the very awesome Wonderhaus building next to Petco park. The showcase was for all graduating students so there was a broad range of industries showcased including web, fashion, interior design and 3d.

There were a couple standouts students from each industry. We were very impressed by some of the interior design and 3d students. The web students were very quick to say that they love all aspects of web design, very few of them were willing to take a side whether it be design or programming. Bill was also a big fan of the food, he spent most of his time eating (and watching the live fashion show).

I didn’t think designers were supposed to be that photogenic! Matt must be photoshopped.

Yeah, I actually grabbed the hair from a Ken doll and photoshopped it on!

Nice meeting you guys yesterday.
I see Matt decided to pose in front of the best stand at the show…

I’m the academic director for the Web program at Ai. Thank you for coming to the show and I’ll pass on the shout out to ID and 3d to my colleagues.

Sorry I missed you – I was at Jared Spool’s UIE Web App Tour learning how to make our great program even greater. Got back from our show just in time to hear Luke Wroblewski’s awesome talk on forms.

We’re very proud of this crop of WDIM grads and I’m glad you picked up on the “not choosing sides between design and programming.” That starts in their first classes and is part of our Ai culture.

Thanks so much for coming out to our Graduate Portfolio Show this quarter. It’s great to have companies such as Digital Telepathy there to meet our graduates. We’re thinking about hosting a “cocktail hour” event next time. I’m glad to hear your liked our graduates’ work (and the food!)…hope to see you at our next show in June!

Dan and Matt – Thanks for making the time to come to the portfolio show. The web design students loved meeting you and hearing about your company and career opportunities. Love the blog and your insights as to the show from an employer’s perspective.

It was fun to hang with you and hope that you make the show a regular on your calendars. I was the somewhat overly proud instructor who greeted you at the door.
