If you’ve used Mint.com, Dropbox or any site that uses the standard top notification bar then you’ve probably seen the “planned maintenance” notification or the “balance is low” warning. The two aforementioned sites are exceptionally good when it comes to UI design and interaction, but some sites just get it wrong. Here are a few tips that can help when designing one of these systems.

Champion Sound
Champion Sound is a free promotion tool for musicians, promoters and venues. As a group of lifelong music fans, we masterminded this concept, which is currently in private beta. Champion Sound is an example of our karmic approach to business, as it provides a product and service where everyone involved benefits - from the musician to the promoter to the fan.
Like the tag-line on the website says, Champion Sound is a free email promotion tool for musicians, promoters & venues. We have been in the email promotion business for a while and we’ve seen a lot of musicians and artists come through our dt.Communicate application. The biggest problem we have seen though is that a lot of musicians simply don’t have the scratch to pay for a decent email promotion – enter Champion Sound.
Through a well designed, sponsored email template, we are removing the cost to the user and passing it off to niche targeted advertisers. Only sponsors who are directly involved in the music industry are allowed to participate in the Champion Sound system. By limiting the types of advertisers that can be involved in sponsoring emails, all the content that musicians send to their subscribers stays relevant and doesn’t conflict with their message.
Champion Sound was created with the intention of enabling musicians and venues to simply, easily, and most importantly, cheaply promote themselves so they can better make a living off their trade. Right now we’re focusing on building a kick-ass experience for sending out email blasts, but Champion Sound won’t stop there. We figure, why stop at email? Why not make this into a full fledged promotion tool; let artists promote themselves and take out the middle-man. Keep an eye out on our blog for updates as Champion Sound evolves.

May 12, 2009Working on a slick web application like Champion Sound is a real joy, and keeping up with the times can be challenging.
